FAQs

Sports Massage is a specific type of massage developed over thousands of years. It is a blend of Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Neuro-Muscular and Trigger Point techniques; which are designed to Improve, Maintain, Prevent Injury and Aid recovery of the body’s muscular systems.

Whether you’re a professional athlete or just like to keep fit. If you like to push yourself to your physical limits through movements such as running, cycling, hiking etc or simply exert yourself through strenuous daily activities for example mothers with small children, gardening etc. then Sports Massage can help you!

Too many times people resort to taking prescribed tablets to mask out the pain caused by a muscular imbalance, but this is not getting to the root of the problem.

Here is a list of some of the conditions that can benefit from Sports Therapy:

  • Muscular pain
  • Back, Neck & Shoulder pain
  • Stress
  • Headaches
  • Stiff neck
  • Sciatica
  • Sports injuries
  • Tendonitis
  • Work-related overuse injuries
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Accidental injuries e.g. whiplash
  • Postural strain & imbalance
  • Painful disorders of joints & muscles
  • Pain of chronic illness & disability
  • Arthritic pain & Rheumatism

The simple answer is YES!.. Providing you have a room spacious enough for the massage couch to be set up and adequate room for the therapist to manoeuvre .

Also, there may be an additional charge depending where you live .

Depending on the ailment different techniques such as Deep Tissue Massage/Trigger Point Therapy may be required. Due to the fact that your muscles may already be tender and inflamed, this may cause some discomfort. However, the therapist will always consult you and work within the parameters of your individual pain threshold.

Each treatment will differ from the last depending on the ailment and how much pressure is required to benefit this. At PRENTICE SPORTS MASSAGE we use a variety of techniques in order to alleviate the problem . Such as:

  • Soft Tissue Release
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Neuro-Muscular Techniques
  • Trigger Point Therapy

After each session the therapist may demonstrate a number of stretching techniques for you to perform at home between sessions. These stretches can help aid the healing process. At this time you will also be given the opportunity to ask any questions that may be concerning you. However, if you have any further queries, feel free to contact Paul via email or by telephone.

Sessions will usually last approximately 45mins. This is inclusive of a short consultation, in which a brief medical history is required, detailing any Contra-Indications to treatment.

Follow up appointments may vary in duration depending on the treatment required, but on average will last between 45mins and 1 hour.

All ailments will differ in severity, depending on the Type, How it occurred and How long you have been suffering.

Although clients may be slightly tender after certain treatments (Treatment Pain), they should notice improvement within a few days, if not immediately!

Contra-Indications are conditions that may be negatively affected by Sports Massage, such as:

  • Heart Condions
  • Haemophilia
  • High/ Low Blood Pressure
  • Epilepsy
  • Pregnancy (within the first 16 weeks)
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Blood Disorders

These are just a few examples of the more commonly encountered Contra-Indications and if you suffer from any of the above please seek advice from your medical practitioner as a letter of consent may be required.

Appointment times vary. If you have a strict working schedule please contact Paul directly via email or by telephone .

Testimonials

Katherine Gorman

Paul has treated lots of issues regarding posture and tension for me over the past year; which has really helped me by significantly reducing my overall pain in day to day life. However, the most beneficial treatment I have received was the pelvic floor dry needling. I've had constant lower abdominal and pelvic pain for years in which I've seen multiple physios, chiropractors and consultants about and none of them were able to help me or really took the time to fully understand the level of discomfort I've been experiencing. I always feel totally at ease and comfortable with Paul and can say it's worth every penny.

David Morton

Fantastic service, Paul was able to clearly explain what was wrong and how he would treat the plantar fasciitis. The results were clearly showing within few hours. Great service, highly professional and would definitely recommend his company to anyone.

Michael Wheavil

Simon provided dry needling treatment to prevent the onset of plantar fasciitis, a lot of knowledgeable information provided prior to treatment. I have been going to Simon for dry needling and other treatments for over a year now, and always come away feeling like I’ve got a new pair of legs!! As a runner, preventative maintenance is crucial and helps avoid injuries (which in the past I’ve been prone to). I like to get in with Simon at least once a month for dry needling treatment as I run a lot of mileage throughout the month. Fantastic and friendly service and always gets it right first time!!

Suzanne Dickson

Can't recommend Paul highly enough. Just had my 2nd session with him and the difference he made to my back is amazing. He does seem to enjoy inflicting pain though lol. Honestly will never go anywhere else. Brilliant at what he does!

Martin Blakely

Paul provided excellent treatment, (almost magical) on a badly sprained ankle and following 2 visits to his clinic, the recovery has been amazing. It feels brand new. The depth of knowledge and understanding, to identify the root cause (lots of detail), deploying corrective treatments plus the after care support with follow up messages. A totally professional sports therapy service utilising the latest technology.

Alison Wallace

I can highly recommend Paul and the team. He has helped my son through a few different injuries. He explains the injury, the treatment and gives realistic expectations of the recovery process. Thanks to the team.

Paula Fitches

Best Sports Therapy in this country!
Paul is an expert in sports injuries, especially football injuries, he went above and beyond after my daughter sustained injuries on the pitch.

Nicola Taggart

My daughter and I were suffering really badly with hayfever and it was ruining summer for us AGAIN! Tablets, arm bands, eye drops, and nasal sprays weren’t working! It was leaving us exhausted, low in energy and unable to enjoy anything really - We went to see Paul on Saturday to get dry needling done - both of us done within the hour and I can safely say I am stunned at the difference in us both - total game changer, thank you Paul, you just saved summer!!!

William Higginson

Couldn't recommend this place enough. After just 1 session and less than 1 hour with Simon I had immediate pain relief and almost full mobility of my frozen shoulder which has been a problem for 2-3 years. If you have a similar problem and have been told nothing can be done , book in with Simon and thank me later. If I could give higher than 5 stars I would.

Michelle Smyth

I was recommended Paul by a friend, and decided to contact him regarding my very painful shoulder and arm. Paul suggested doing the dry needling to get my arm recovered quickly. Paul was amazing, he made me feel comfortable and reassured me, keeping asking me if i was ok. It took only 2 appointment, and I am delighted with the results. If you have any problems with regarding any kind of pain I would highly recommend prentice sports therapy.
